The Dienstglas 6x30 (or Doppelfernrohr, Doppelglas, 'Double-glass') is a special field issue tool used by the German Army during World War II. These units were manufactured by many different plants throughout Germany during the war, and were produced to meet a 6-power design requirement. The Diesnstglas is comprised of various metals, is coated in a black lacquer, and finalized with leather, synthetic rubber, and bakelite for ergonomic comfort. They were either worn around the neck on a leather strap, or held in special holsters. Service binoculars were issued to officers, NCOs, artillery spotters, aircraft, and snipers. The Dienstglas was used extensively for reconnaissance, and proved invaluable in tactical and support roles throughout World War II.[1]
